i found this list of <a href="http://rawdeadfish.com/exit.php?url_id=137&amp;entry_id=88" title="http://www.maxkiesler.com/index.php/weblog/comments/round_up_of_50_ajax_toolkits_and_frameworks/" onmouseover="window.status=’http://www.maxkiesler.com/index.php/weblog/comments/round_up_of_50_ajax_toolkits_and_frameworks/’;return true;" onmouseout="window.status=”;return true;">50 ajax frameworks</a>. it is probably not complete (since new ones are showing up every day, it seems), but it is a great place to start. i am still trying to figure out what capabilities i need and which framework will work best. my project includes a step where you go to a web page and post an xml file of records from a local database. so i would like the page to refresh with the counts of rows processed, adds, updates, deletes, errors, and a detailed error list once the xml is uploaded. <br />
<br />
i was planning on starting with the gwt from google. i’ll post updates as i learn more about these toolkits and the multitude of options that they have.

if you think of ajax as something more than what you clean your floor with, then this <a href="http://rawdeadfish.com/exit.php?url_id=136&amp;entry_id=86" title="http://www.javapassion.com/ajaxcodecamp/" onmouseover="window.status=’http://www.javapassion.com/ajaxcodecamp/’;return true;" onmouseout="window.status=”;return true;">free online ajax course</a> might be worth looking into. it will probably be the only way i can learn the stuff, through structured course materials. it begins aug 4, 2006. thank you sun for making it free.

i have been using textpad since v3.0 and it is a great little program for editing anything of any size (text, bin, hex, dos, linux), global replacements in multiple buffers, finds in multiple files, etc.<br />

oh, that’s simple enough…<br />
<br />
put log4j.properties in the WEB-INF/classes of my webapp.<br />
put log4j-1.2.8.jar and commons-logging-1-0-3.jar in the WEB-INF/lib of my webapp.<br />
<br />
and use a properties file that loos something like this one:<br />
### BEGIN<br />
##<br />
#<br />
<br />
# Set root logger level to DEBUG and its appenders to A1, R.<br />
log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG, A1, R<br />
<br />
#<br />
# A1 is set to be a ConsoleAppender.<br />
#<br />
log4j.appender.A1=org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender<br />
<br />
# A1 uses PatternLayout.<br />
log4j.appender.A1.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout<br />
log4j.appender.A1.layout.ConversionPattern=%-4r [%t] %-5p %c %x – %m%n<br />
<br />
#<br />
# A1 is set to be a ConsoleAppender.<br />
#<br />
log4j.appender.R=org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender<br />
log4j.appender.R.File=myapp.log<br />
<br />
# Set the file size and the max # files to roll<br />
log4j.appender.R.MaxFileSize=100KB<br />
log4j.appender.R.MaxBackupIndex=5<br />
<br />
log4j.appender.R.layout=org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout<br />
log4j.appender.R.layout.ConversionPattern=%p %t %c – %m%n<br />
<br />
#<br />
##<br />
### END <br />
<br />
then it will work fine…<br />
<br />
so easy, so simple, so beautiful!<br />

i got this palm treo 600 and i am not too happy with the budgetting software for it. none of the packages out there seem to be designed for the treo 600’s 5-way nav button and one handed use. so now i am interested in developing one myself. will this go anywhere? no idea. i am only starting to gague how much i have to learn to actually make a decent app. do i develop in c/c++ (languages i have not touced in years), java (maybe), or find a rad environment out there?<br />
<br />
I im’ed jeff gibson (of mytreo.net development fame) and he gave me 2 places to start:<br />
<a href="http://rawdeadfish.com/exit.php?url_id=21&amp;entry_id=6" title="http://www.palmone.com/us/developers/" onmouseover="window.status=’http://www.palmone.com/us/developers/’;return true;" onmouseout="window.status=”;return true;">http://www.palmone.com/us/developers/</a><br />
<a href="http://rawdeadfish.com/exit.php?url_id=22&amp;entry_id=6" title="http://pluggedin.palmone.com/regac/pluggedin/login.jsp" onmouseover="window.status=’http://pluggedin.palmone.com/regac/pluggedin/login.jsp’;return true;" onmouseout="window.status=”;return true;">http://pluggedin.palmone.com/regac/pluggedin/login.jsp</a><br />
<a href="http://rawdeadfish.com/exit.php?url_id=23&amp;entry_id=6" title="http://www.palmos.com/dev/dl/" onmouseover="window.status=’http://www.palmos.com/dev/dl/’;return true;" onmouseout="window.status=”;return true;">http://www.palmos.com/dev/dl/</a><br />
<br />
so i tried them out and also found for Java:<br />
<a href="http://rawdeadfish.com/exit.php?url_id=24&amp;entry_id=6" title="http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/java/" onmouseover="window.status=’http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/java/’;return true;" onmouseout="window.status=”;return true;">http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/java/</a><br />
<a href="http://rawdeadfish.com/exit.php?url_id=25&amp;entry_id=6" title="http://www.microjava.com/" onmouseover="window.status=’http://www.microjava.com/’;return true;" onmouseout="window.status=”;return true;">http://www.microjava.com/</a><br />
<br />
Hope this helps anyone else out there get started.<br />
