yeah, yeah, skipped an update. i know. well you didn’t miss much. last week i was up a bit to 233.5 lbs and this week i was travelling over the weekend, so weighed in on friday morning at 232.5 lbs. i guess i can’t complain too much, being the middle of the summer and all. just like everybody else, the summer picnics and late night heat make it real tough to stay away from the icy creamy luciousness of a good sundae! so i am just hanging in there and trying to make it to sept, the final stretch to the end of the year. will I have some significant progress to show? maybe halfway to the ultimate goal? pppttthhh… right. but just maybe. i’ve never felt more fit and motivated to walk and run hard. time will tell!

aaaggghhh! my mobile is starting to die, after 2.5 yrs of love and happiness and iphoneless joy. just yesterday, while exercising, the bluetooth suddenly stopped working. ever since, i have not been able to get the mic and receiver to work. I figured it was the cuil new throttle launcher software that I was trying out. nope. uninstalled it and still no talking. maybe I just needed a soft reset (this thing is windows, you know). nope. still no talking. ok. let’s get crazy. backup everything and hard reset. waaaa! still no luck. although the phone rings, no other sound works and the thing won’t even go into speakerphone mode.

crap! i’m not ready for a new phone!

i am holding out for the touch pro. look at these reviews:

htc touch pro hardware hands-on
htc touch pro software and gui hands-on

now that is something to look forward to. look at the speed, the memory, the size, the keyboard, the flush screen, oh man!

let me know if you think there is something better and it doesn’t begin with the letter ” i “.

2 funny stories so far. first, tommy-o got a ticket on father’s day for going through a yellow in canada. yup, that’s against the law, and he knew it, too. tough break. second , this other dude’s story is that he doesn’t know what he got ticketed for. he blacked out after causing some sort of accident where 2 other cars crashed into him. good thing for him, he was the only one that got hurt, blacked out and spent a day or 2 in the hospital, his car was totaled, so he got cash to put towards a down payment! win-win! just had to take the class. crazy!

woah. ever been in a really strong wind storm with only an old canvas tarp protecting you? we just were! overnight into day 3, this crazy storm, that thankfully dumped rain onto some other town, passed through. it was crazy. you feel like the next big gust would knock your tent over!

after that storm passed, my headache, that i had for hours, got worse. and i couldn’t find my motrin! oh! it hurt so bad, i was getting sick to my stomache and i couldn’t fall back to sleep either. then my son falls off the cot. i jumped outta bad, startled by the noise but i don’t initially see him. oh crap! he fell right off the platform, outta the tent. the best part? still sleeping! i put him back on his cot, half in his bag, and he just keeps a-snoozin’ on. too funny!

but i wasn’t in the mood for funny. of course, now i really could’t sleep, with my head pounding and all worried that he would fall out again. ugh! who invented camping and/or scouting!! hate you!

i finally got some sleep, about an hour, 5:30 to 6:30, and i was looking and feeling ragged. once the natural light came, i was able to find the motrin, and popped a couple. it still took almost 3 hrs after that to feel somewhat better again. my neck was real sore and my back was still killing! and then the rain came! uuugh! nasty cold and heavy!

and with all that rain coming down, what did the boy want to do? fish. so we fished… and the rain subsided to a light drizzle. but when it was his brother’s turn to fish off the pontoon boat, we got to go along! in the middle of listening to the boat rules, the skies opened up again so we waited for the rain to slow down, and eventually it did enough to go out and have a go at some boat fishing.

but just as we got to our fishing spot and put ojut the lines, the thunder began to pound, so we had to head back to land. uuugh! and dodge ball it was until lunch! let me tell ya, those dodge ball kids are vicious! it’s just a game kids! geez!

during lunch the rain finally passed over us and the sky cleared up and my headache was completely gone and the day started looking up and the afternoon consisted of more fishing and another fishing boat expedition. this time, we had fun! lots of it! wahoo! and the boy even caught something!

i am writing this update as someone who has survived another day of camp. this full day began at 6:40 am, with a massive urge to use the bathroom. we then went fishing at 7 am, and proceeded to fish until breakfast time. breakfast included the epic taunting chorus of “there ain’t no flies on us, there ain’t no flies on us, there might be flies on some-a you guys, but there ain’t no flies on us!” and of course some tables responded with an equally taunting chorus that sounds the same, but includes bugs and slugs.

after breakfast, we were supposed to start our activities, but my wolf cub refused… so we went fishing… until lunch.

after lunch, guess what we did? fishing! but for only a little bit, because it was only 92f degrees out and for some reason, the fish were not biting. so we went swimming! well, not really. we went to the beach and played in the sand. since i had to stay with my buddy, i couldn’t just go swim by myself. so i baked some more.

finally, we finished off the day with some boating and some more sand play. the boats were fun. paddle, paddle, paddle. i’m so glad i walk 4 mi/day or that paddle boat woulda kicked my butt!! here’s some interesting shots of playing in the sand. one boy, a bucket, and a shovel, and big dreams of a big hole in the ground. my son and i set out to dig a deep hole. why? who knows! er, i mean, cause that’s what ya do in the sand! and he was minding his business too. then one other boy wanted to help, then another, then a pair, then some of his friends. before we new it ther was a pile of kids working on this hole and a river from the hole back to the lake, and a dam, and filling the hole with water. it was pretty neat to watch the whole thing unfold. enjoy the shots.

pictures not up yet… gimme a day or 2…

here is my synopsis of day 1 of 4 at camp. we were early birds. that means that we left home at 6:45 am to be the first ones to camp. that way, we got great parking spots and went through the tour of all the activity stations first to get it all out of the way. then we decorated our camp site with our khights of the round table themed stuff. one of our moms is really creative and designed this huge castle front that we had to figure out how to string up between the trees in our entry way. it turned pretty impressive.

we then did afternoon activities. boating, outdoor skills, and swimming. of course my younger boy was not interested in following the schedule. he tried the boating and loved it, until the heavens opened up on us. boy did it pour!

beyond that, all he wanted to do was fish. so we did. for 2 hours… fish, fish, fish. we caught pearch and blue gill. this other kid caught the beast under the dock!! a large mouth bass that is about 15″ long. that kept us planted on the dock for the rest of the day.

after dinner, we watched the staff do a boat load of skits, that were pretty funny, and sing camp songs. we then ended the day with our own site camp fire and lots of shmarshmellows and chocolate!!

hopefully, we don’t get any more rain. the puddles are massive and deep!

i can’t say that i was perfectly off sugar for the past week, but i was significantly lower. wednesday was the only weekday that was bad. i didn’t make lunch, i had no time to go buy some, i was stressing over work that was not workin, and there was food hanging around. so a nibble turned into a small feast. but it didn’t hurt the scale at all, because i counter balanced it with a ton of exercizing. a tiny adjustment to the clock radio got me to the gym 15 min early so that i could up my distance to 4 miles @ 3% grade. that burns approx 570 cals in 56 minutes. not to shabby. and even though i did not stay completely away from sugar over the weekend, i got 2 workouts of 5.5 miles each.

on to the scale!! i finally have some good scale news, but i will disclose that i hopped on after the workout. so it read 233.5 lbs. down very nicely from last weeks evil 238 reading. so, i guess this is finally a skinny update again. now i gotta make it 2 in a row! possible? tune in next week to find out.

update, 4:25pm est: never mind. I have chosen to use speeding ticket as my theme because my wife just got one, on her way out of town. this was her first ticket ever for anything. it was bound to happen sometime.

this week i am up 1/2 to 238 lbs. all of my thanks goes to my buddies from the old job, who went to lunch with me on fri, forced me to eat rice with my panang curry, and then forced me to stom for an ice cream afterwards, and forced me to pay for all of it! i’m dedicating losing 1/2 lb this week to you all!

actually, i freaked on sat morning when the scale read 241.5 before the 4 mi workout. luckily, the workout brought me back into the realm of possibility. i want to thank all of the commeters on the last skinny update for telling me that the workout diff is just water weight. i still have a hard time with it, because i sweat, but i can’t believe that much! but my commeters are a smart bunch and i trust them…

i want to leave you with these parting words, i’m back off sugar!! i have been getting up at 5:30am and intensely working out 6 days/wk, and have nothing to show for it. i am practically the same weight as when i started. so i have to go drastic. tune in next wk for the shocking continuation of my saga: will it be skinny update or flubby blow-out.

ok wow. after pushing podcast #2 out, i was really proud of myself for the accomplishment, and it sounded good… of course, i only listened to the beginning to make sure the sound level was decent. once i got into the car the following morning to test the sound levels did i list a bit further into the show and notice that my cut/paste went haywire and overlaid a bunch of the talk i had with my daughter! and i didn’t have an original to go back to. so, i painstakingly went through all of the audio and cleaned it up as best i could. instead of just canning the whole thing, i cut out the bad sections. so, you may notice a couple discontinuities. oh well, that’s beginner podcasting for ya.

and thank you all for the encouraging comments (aka. getting laughed at on friday during thai lunch by my friends, you’re the best). i will keep this going just for you, danni!

who knows of this phenomenon? i weigh myself before and after working out (may i mention that i walked 5 1/4 miles today) and there is a significant difference in my weight. before the workout, the lard stops flubbering at 237.5 lbs. surprisingly, the post exercise flub count is only 233.5 lbs. i’ve noticed on several other occasions, but since it is repeatable, i’m really interested in knowing why. is it that my electrons are shooting around my body and causing perception of weightlessness? or are hot molecules lighter? or do i really just sweat that much… what is the scientific reason?

well, besides the scientific inquery, i’m comforted to be back to heading in the right direction. i truly thought i was going to have to take drastic measures today, but maybe they are only diverted for another week or so. who knows. we’ll see.
